Bad Idea: Project X-Inspired Party
April 27, 2012 § 2 Comments
Yesterday, my fiance and I went to see Project X. While we enjoyed the movie, we realized that the idea behind it was really stupid. Underage drinking is not okay under any circumstances. There is an age requirement to drink for a reason. By 21-years-old, a lot of people are more responsible. But not all! Anyways, the movie was funny but ended badly in that the high schooler’s whole neighborhood was trashed. Oops! Spoiler alert. But coming from a small rural town in the middle of nowhere, many of my former classmates drank well before they ever turned 21. And many high schoolers drink underage right now. It’s terrible! And tonight, one of those teenagers plans to throw a Project X - inspired party. While this is not only a bad idea, the high schooler also decided to put the information all over Facebook. I have a feeling the cops will show up. And I hope I don’t have to read about any terrible things happening at “Project Cliff.” When will high schoolers ever learn? This event makes me disappointed to say that I went to the same high school as these people.

I personally find the 21 age limit a little ridiculous. One is allowed to have a drivers license, or legally drop out of school at 16- both of which are dangerous and potentially life ruining decisions! We are allowed to coat our lungs with tar at 18, but also sign up to die for our country, but I was not allowed to have wine with friends.
Living in Europe for two years, the culture there has accepted youth drinking as a norm, but does many things to educate the youth about alcohol. The Swiss also have a really good idea: one can buy/drink wine and beer at 16, but must wait until 18 to try the harder stuff. Plus, they are brought up with one word: Moderation.
I wish America allowed its youth to experiment safely. Although I didn’t drink underage, many of my friends did, and because they were afraid to get in trouble they put themselves in some dangerous places, making stupid decisions. Education is the key to everything, and drinking is no exception. The binge-drinking culture in America is so dangerous, I wish somebody had taught me how to drink safely and be smart about it!
That being said, I think that drinking is a recreation to be tried safely, with people you trust, and with the intention NOT to get drunk. Drinking should be taken more seriously, I 100% agree with you!
I agree with you! People need to be educated about drinking and make wise decisions. I hate how young people just want to get so drunk that they have no idea what’s going on. That does not sound fun at all to me!
Anyways, thanks for commenting!
